My Imperial Green Pigeon Pictures
My Green Imperial Pigeon sighting took place while
I was patrolling with fellow birder Ivor along the coastal road of
Pulau Tekong, an island reserved for military training in Singapore.
There was a flutter on the branch of a tall palm some 75m from the
road.
We acquired the bird on our bins, it was a very large pigeon with
iridescent green wings on a mellow gray body. It's a Green Imperial
Pigeon!
It was a lifer for me and there was no time to lost
we quickly bring our digital cameras to bear on this rare and
beautiful pigeon. We were happy to be rewarded with some fine
photos.
Checking our bird guide, it seem that the Green Imperial Pigeon
has not been sighted in Singapore since 1958. That’s 45 years ago
and the year I was born. Whether this pigeon flew across the Straits
of Johore , the fact remains, this is a good sighting on Singapore
soil.
