My White-bellied Fish Eagle Pictures
Arguably the most majestic raptor in Singapore, the
White-bellied Fish Eagle is found widely across Asia. I have even
watched two WBFE soaring low over the coast while holidaying in
Australia.
We have WBFE nesting across Singapore especially in the
Central Catchments Forest but it was at the island of Pulau Tekong
that I came across three WBFE nest in close proximity within a 200m
stretch.
Each nest was perched high in the tall trees along the coastal
road. Watching two WBFE doing aerials above the trees coming
together clasping claw to claw is an awesome sight to behold.
Was it a mating ritual or just play? Another soared low above the
track and landed on one of the nest to reveal a juvenile that will
soon fledge.
On the next visit to the area I photographed this
juvenile high up on a nearby tree. It would one day grow to take on
the distinctive “bald eagle” look.
