My Cuckoo Bird Pictures
The following are some of my Rusty-breasted Cuckoo
bird pictures I have taken. Word went out among the community of
birders that an Oriental Cuckoo was sighted on Mt Faber.
This was earlier in the week and I was hopeful as I
walked along the pavement that overlook the “bird valley” scanning
for movement, shape and sound.
My senses were relaxed as I soaked in the air
filled with calls from all the usual resident birds. I reached the
end of the road and backtracked till the bend then suddenly there it
was perched on a branch just beside the path.
I almost stopped breathing because the cuckoo was
so near and not wanting to scare it off, I calmly acquired it on my
scope and switch the Nikon Coolpix on.
It was too small to be an Oriental but turned out
to be the Rusty-breasted Cuckoo, a rare migrant and still
nevertheless a lifer for me. The bird was cooperative and pose for
me wagging its tail and then flipping around for a back view shot.
It was a magical moment and as much as I would like
it to last longer, it was gone as the Rusty took off into the “bird
valley”.
